When calculating the allowable stress of 9% Ni steel as per API 620 Appendix Q, the lower value of the strength between the plate (e.g. quenched-and-tempered ASTM A553 Type I B 690 MPa; Y 585 MPa) and the weld metal (e.g. JIS Z 3225 D9Ni-1 B 660 MPa; Y 360 MPa), namely the strength of the weld metal, is adopted as the standard strength in general.
